on sale at the market this week...
just beautiful... as soon as i cracked the husk open in the market, and saw this wonderful surprise inside, i was just giddy with excitement. I KNEW I was going to have to capture them, before they went into the pot. I knew they would be perfect for the blog!
there is something about corn on the cob, that brings up so many memories of summertime BBQs. I mean for real, cause at a good ole fashioned BBQ, corn is usually the only veggie there.
I like to cook mine with a little bit of salt and suger in the pot. When they are done, I drain the pot, and then I add more butter and some more salt and sugar, while still in the hot pot. HMMM HMMM GOOD.
I don't see corn on the cob much during the winter months, so its always a treat when the weather is warm!
...and all this to say, don't forget to scrapbook those summertime memories!!! They will be good to have when the winter hits...

My super late intro and a project to share...
Hello!
I know I'm quite a bit late in posting an intro, but here I am at last. The fabulous Adrianne and Toya came up with this wonderful Scrapalong idea. What better way to share than to let everyone who wants to participate join in the fun? I think it is wonderful how these two young, creative souls, are always so willing to create ways to let everyone feel included. So thank you both for starting this great new blog!
Now, who am I? My name is Maria. I am the mother of a 10 year old adorable girl who gives meaning to my life. That 10 year old child is also the reason why I started scrapbooking a decade ago. From the minute she was born, I became obsessed with the idea of recording memories in every way possible. I have always loved to journal and take pictures, but the idea of putting it all into scrapbook pages was born when my daughter came into this world. The rest is history.
Scrapbooking has become a part of my every day life. And now I have also been an avid blogger since the Summer of 2005, I have been teaching scrapbooking classes at my LSS since the Fall of 2005 and most recently, in May 2007, I became one of my LSS' creative team members. I also work full time at a law firm as a Paralegal and have a two hour daily commute to work. This may explain why it's taken me this long to get it together so I could post my fist entry into the Scrapalong blog.
So my entry for today will be a layout with some of my favorite subjects...my garden babies, my flowers. I was inspired by the People's magazine ad for their "Most Beautiful People" edition. I just used the concept to feature the "Most Beautiful Flowers." Hope you like it!

I'M A BAD, BAD SCRAP-A-LONG-ER!!!
hey ya'll, my name is elizabeth and i'm *so* sorry that it has taken me this long to drop in and introduce myself.
but rest assure, i've been stopping by and getting all inspired by all the beautiful yellow that has been shown.
so i guess ya'll would like to know a lil bit more about me.
again, my name is elizabeth, i'm married to a fab-boo man who puts up with ALOT...lol. i have two lil bug-a-boos, mikey and bella. i live on the gulfcoast of mississippi and greta and i are the bestest of friends. we are almost done building our dream house and i can't wait to get my new scrappy/crafty room all organized and ready to be worked in.
i have been crafty since i was a lil girl. i couldn't imagine living life without some sort of craftiness in it. i started scrappin' about 7 years ago and have been hooked ever since. i think my favorite part (aside from the tension/stress reliever it provides for me) is the fondling and buying of scrappy goods! i also like to knit (but i only know one stitch ;), cross stitch, sew (again, my skills here are limited), make jewelry bits, paint, draw, the list goes on and on.
i'm also addicted to junkin', thriftin', and antiquin'. i collect childrens vintage books, fabric, and anything else that catches my eye. i love things with birdies and owls on em and love the color blue right now.
i guess that is about it for now or ya'll would get the novel version ;)
i'm really excited to participate in this and can't wait to be inspired.
oh, before i forget, here is my contribution for this week.
my yella-crime fightin'-fella :)

keepsake idea?
I'm soliciting ideas for a knitted gift that I want to give someone, however I want to give it to them it with a box or something so they can store it once they are done using it for the baby and she is a scrapper so I have to take that into consideration.
any ideas?

and they call it mellow yellow...
i am really feeling yellow right now. i purchased a yellow bathing suit for my daughter. she wore yellow in her recital; and i am knitting a yellow tank for her. the making memories funky vintage line has some yellow "infused" into it. i totally loved it. i used a sheet of it (6x6) for this layout.
yellow is the kinda of color you don't particulary like all the time. but in the right shade, it can rock your world. like bazzill in pumpkin seed, criss cross texture does. its the best yellow they have put out in my book. my go to yellow. its warm, and not too bright.
and while i am sitting here with my swatch box, here are some other yellows, from bazzill you might like:
candlelight
tapioca
pollen
cornbread
sherbet
lemonade
sunbeam
take care!

Play Tards..wanna?
This is my layout for the red/yellow/black combo.
Not exactly how i envisioned it but win some you lose some.
How appropriate this is about cards with a statement like that huh?
For as long as I can remember I would get up in the morning or from a nap or just because and ask my paw paw to play "tards". I was about 2 when we started playing.
He started me out small with GO FISH, OLD MAID, CRAZY 8's...well you get the picture..by the time I was 5 i was kickin it with the rummy 21. It got to the point where he was bound and determined he was going to beat me..but rarely did...and no he wasn't letting me win. He created a monster. So from then on I was also known as greta the card shark. I miss him dearly
TFL!

Sorry I couldn't help myself
Well ya know with the yellow, red and black combination on my mind lately I couldn't resist this beauty. While surfing my trash sites I came across this. You see I am addicted to celebrity gossip site and books...I'll even go as far as saying I love "trash" tv such as jerry springer, maury "who's my baby daddy" povich and garbage like that. It makes me feel better about my life. Bwhahahah!! So this is part one of my yellow, red and black combo:
Sorry! I couldn't resist =)

Yellow is going to be hard. For me it more of a soothing color then caution. My baby's room has a lot of yellow and when the sun hits his window the whole room feels warm.
When talking about flowers yellow means friendship, Right? DH thought that and gave me yellow flowers one time and told me that he knew that I knew he loved me but he want to show me we still had that friendship. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.
I have the picture above on my backdrop for inspiration.
Header Inspiration
True, yellow is one hard color to scrap. I look back at old layouts and I see that I seldom use yellow. Even trying to figure out how I want the banner to look was a challenge all in itself. So here are the 2 runner ups for the title of Blog Header of the Month.
I love the title Toya came up with. "Enigma" is a paradox, a riddle, something hard to comprehend. In many ways similar to the color yellow. The uses of it are really all or nothing. Caution signs are covered in yellow used as preventive measures. But this month I encourage you guys to take yellow and test it to it's limits. Take a look around and see what this color means to you, most importantly how it inspires you. And don't forget to post it here! Enjoy your weekend!

Yellow Defined
Yellow is the color of sunshine. It's associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy.
Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity, and generates muscle energy. Yellow is often associated with food. Bright, pure yellow is an attention getter, which is the reason taxicabs are painted this color. When overused, yellow may have a disturbing effect; it is known that babies cry more in yellow rooms. Yellow is seen before other colors when placed against black; this combination is often used to issue a warning. In heraldry, yellow indicates honor and loyalty. Later the meaning of yellow was connected with cowardice.
Use yellow to evoke pleasant, cheerful feelings. You can choose yellow to promote children's products and items related to leisure. Yellow is very effective for attracting attention, so use it to highlight the most important elements of your design. Men usually perceive yellow as a very lighthearted, 'childish' color. Yellow is an unstable and spontaneous color, so avoid using yellow if you want to suggest stability and safety.
Light yellow tends to disappear into white, so it usually needs a dark color to highlight it. Shades of yellow are visually unappealing because they loose cheerfulness and become dingy.
Dull (dingy) yellow represents caution, decay, sickness, and jealousy.
Light yellow is associated with intellect, freshness, and joy.
Now, go...create, with yellow!

Keynotes: Project Yellow Enigma
Last week I got an email from Adrienne asking me when will we be changing the color theme for the blog..... I thought "already, what's wrong with RED?" LOL
But of course all good things must come to an end, so we can press on and start anew.
So, now we are starting a new journey and this time we are going somewhere that "most" scrappers don't like to venture. "We" are going to step lightly into the Yellow abyss, a color that is so bright, so bold, so "difficult" that its usually the last piece of cardstock you will ever pick to buy or even worse, SCRAP.
"Oh gosh, I hate yellow", "I just can't work with it", "I forgot that color even exist"... you can add your own quote to the list in the comment box, lol.
Ronalyn has blessed us with a new banner which will be up in a few, Adrienne will be gracing us with the meaning of Yellow to get us going and I look forward to everyones take on it, lots of reviews, photos, layouts, just general thoughts, please share.
Last month was so wonderful, so many inspiring layouts, all of which just put a big ole smile on my face everytime I came to this blog, gosh,, this is just a good thing.
So, wipe the slate clean, its time to go to the unknown project Yellow Enigma is now in full effect.
